View Full Version : Lifetime Ambitions

Do you have any specific things you want to accomplish in your lifetime? There are lots of things I'd like to be able to do, but it seems my progress is so slow that 'in my lifetime' is the best deadline I can hope for. For example, I want to
learn to play The Well-Tempered Clavier (so far I can play Bach's minuet in G from the Anna Magdalena Notebook, haha)
write a poem truly worth reading, i.e., one I myself would want to read
and read In Search of Lost Time. This one seems the most reasonable.
Learning to draw (I'm practically hopeless at it right now), writing a decent novel (I don't think I'll have the perseverance), becoming a better chess player, and improving my clarinet playing are all other, secondary things I'd like to achieve.
So, how about you? What kinds of things do you wish you could do? Looking forward to reading your answers!
I wish I could enjoy my life without worries.

Write a great book. Move to South America. Do something for my brother which I don't want to specify on here. Make both of my parents extremely proud. Record an album in a real studio, not try to become a musician exactly, but just record an album of my voice and guitar playing, express my joy and my suffering in sound. Never fall in love again. And finally, do something heroically selfless. Save someone's life or something like that, even if I die doing so.

I used to want to write a book. As a teenager, I wrote for pleasure and to escape, but I now prefer active activities. I also find I have less to write about...I suppose I am more critical and perceptive! I will continue to write for myself as/when I want to.
My main ambitions are:
- to be a successful, inspirational teacher
- to fall madly in love and to build a strong relationship with someone. Every relationship will have its ups and downs, and sometimes the downs will last for an extended period of time, but I hope to build a life with someone I can trust, someone who'll stick by me when things are tough, as I will them!
- to explore the world more (I'd love to visit rural areas in America, Greece, Finland, Norway)
- to learn the violin and to improve my performance on the piano
- to buy and furnish my own home.
There are more, but those are the most important at the moment. :)
Oh, I'll add a vain one - to lose 4-8 pounds! ;) I'm 5 foot 1 and find I gain weight on 1700 calories, so it's tough. :/ I exercise more than most too. -_- but I'd like to lose just a bit of fat and return to my Uni weight!

express my joy and my suffering in sound
That's exactly what being a musician is all about though!

I mostly want a stable salary which would allow me to live with reasonable "comfort" (ie not worry about money). Then i can focus more on my writing, and some other things :)

Very true. I practice singing, guitar playing and drums quite a bit but I don't really want to go out and perform and try to make money off of music. That's what I meant when I said I don't want to be a musician. Writing I do partly out of ego, to try and look smart and talented to others. Music I do just for the pure joy and release it provides.

Off the top of my head, I intend to:
-Play Piano.
-Improve my drawing.
-Travel.
-Learn how to play poker (Texas Hold'em).
-Meet someone I'd like to share my life with.
-Live a healthier life (better nutrition and more exercise).
-Meet more people with similar interests as mine.
-Cut down on my drinking.
I am taking the initiative in most of those ambitions/goals but it's gonna take awhile.

I'd like to:
- fall in love, get married, and start a family
- pay back my mortgage (only 19 and a half years to go, yay!)
- graduate from university (this one at least should happen within a year or so)
- get a good, regular job (preferably something at least remotely related to my field)
- get rid of my numerous allergies and other health problems (probably never going to happen, but a girl can hope)
