I’ve learned that love and lust cannot coexist.
I’ve learned that lust is the desire of the senses:
The desire to see, to hear,
To smell, to touch,
To taste.
I’ve learned that love is the desire of the soul:
The desire to care, and to be cared for,
To protect and be protected,
To elicit a fit of laughter,
To evoke a beaming grin,
To be held and comforted
On those days where spilling a glass of water
Is enough to draw upon a well of tears.
To love is to live.
And it is because of what I’ve learned
That allows me to confidently say
I love you
Rather than
I lust for you.
I’ve learned that lust is the desire of the senses:
The desire to see, to hear,
To smell, to touch,
To taste.
I’ve learned that love is the desire of the soul:
The desire to care, and to be cared for,
To protect and be protected,
To elicit a fit of laughter,
To evoke a beaming grin,
To be held and comforted
On those days where spilling a glass of water
Is enough to draw upon a well of tears.
To love is to live.
And it is because of what I’ve learned
That allows me to confidently say
I love you
Rather than
I lust for you.
