Mad Dog Sunday and the Twenty-first Century Man
Heat like a hammer,
On the sun’s anvil,
Radiates off grey pavement,
Blacktop roadways,
The top of my naked noggin,
And you,
In all your glory,
Sparkling like a gem,
Among the common stones.

Nice.
Sounds like you're blowing off the residue from a rough Saturday night with a little hair of the dog and a ride in a rag top.
"And you,..." I figured is either a classic restored rag top or stand out motorcycle.
On the other hand I wondered if the "Sparkling like a gem" and "...common stones" referred to a shattered bottle of MD 20/20.
The glass fragments sparkling against the common asphalt aggregates.
edit: btw did you intend to use "Sparking" or "Sparkling"?

I intended sparkling and have revised it. Oh, this is what poetry is all about-interpretation! I was alluding to the heat driving dogs mad! (we're having a heat wave in Socal)
I'm so pleased with your interpretation.

I read that Death Valley hit 130 degrees, just four degrees less that the hottest temperature ever recorded on this planet! Along with the reported deaths due to heat stroke and dehydration, there have been instances of people getting burned by asphalt and concrete pavement. Don't go barefoot, Steven, and try to stay cool as y'are.
