I was wondering if anyone knows of an equivalent site that deals with music instead of literature. I love how this site gives detailed information on authors and the different periods/movements (as well as access to the actually writing, obviously). If there were a site that did something similar but with composers and their respective genres/eras, I would be ecstatic. Anyone know of one?

There is the Petrucci Music Library, which has scores, but no forum.

There are several fine music forums. Among those that I participate on are:

http://www.talkclassical.com/

http://www.good-music-guide.com/

http://operalively.com/forums/content.php

These sites focus primarily on "Classical Music" from medieval chant to the most recent and experimental works. Most of these forums have threads where one may discuss other musical "styles": Jazz, Blues, Country, Rock, etc...

Online music discussion is highly genre-specific, although as SLG notes, most of them have other areas to discuss alternative to the main type.

There are dozens of hip-hop forums, hundreds of rock, and thousands of specialist forums for music-lovers. You'll just have to scout until you find one that suits.
