I often ponder existential questions. I guess it's because I have a contemplative personality and I've become disillusioned by many things in the world.

What about you? Do you often ponder existential matters, such as the meaning/purpose of life, the afterlife, man's origin, why society is the way that it is, etc?

If so, do you discuss your conclusions/ideas with other people? How have such discussions turned out? Have they been frustrating because it seems like they don't get your point of view?

Do you think that creative/literary types are more prone to existential crises?

No, I have more basic things to think about then to ponder the meaning of my existence.

Nowadays I go hiking instead of asking these questions. It's a better and healthier way of spending my time and you get a real impression of the meaning of everything without thinking about it a large. :)

I also want to focus on more empirical things, such as my soon trip to Austria or exams I have this week:)

yeah, i have the same questions sometimes when ther is nothing creative in my mind :rolleyes5:
but i just ponder on the things, creation of the universe , on what i have to do next nd what i'm doing right now.
after a lot of thinking __ i just take a deep breath , nd say to me " no u have lil mind, big things to think doesn't suit you".
nd then enjoy the litle things :arf:

I am too obsessed with my own mind to think about big questions that concern the rest of the world.

This is probably something most people think about at some point but life tends to get in the way before you find some sort of answer to whatever the question is.

Doesn't much of literature grapple with such questions?

well I do exist and so no i never question the whys and hows the existence came about. It is pointless. I am however more busy pondering is how to exist without having to feel I owe people and life a living. In other words I am more into finding out how to exist and coexist along others and make a real sense of it.

I like reading and thinking about such things. For example, I enjoy reading surveys of fields that the local library has purchased.

The only places i discuss such topics are on forums like Lit Net. From my perspective the discussions have always been entertaining. They've helped me clarify my own thoughts and give me an opportunity to express a point of view. I don't feel frustrated that others might not agree with my point of view. Normally, I don't want them to agree with me. What new things would I find out then?

I suspect creative types are people who are open to their intuition and use their right and left brains in an efficient way to produce creative works. I'm not sure what an "existential crisis" is, but crises, in general, are opportunities to change, whether one is literary or not.

I ponder about those too... the afterlife to be specific. And yes, there are times that I discuss those and there are times that I got the same feedback as mine and some differs from mine. Either way I learned something from it. And I think creative/literary types are sometimes prone to existential crises :)
