I feel I can never get comfortable when reading. It's either my body is really comfortable but it's hard to hold the book, or vice versa. I need tips! :(

This is a very interesting discussion, as I have been putting off reading a book all day because I haven't been able to find a very good reading stance/environment/furniture. If anyone can share some insight, I'd be very thankful. I can always read, though it's often painful.

i'm bumping this only because i still cannot find a comfy position.
First thing you do is dispose of your TV and any other object that threatens distraction. This includes events that will pull you away from your studies. This includes friends and family. As far as positioning, the best I've found is a lounging position. I've accomplished the lounging effect by sitting on my bed and placing pillows against the wall so that my body's angle is slightly obtuse. Now finding yourself "kicking back" there is nothing to do but read.
PS. If the reading is not going well, don't be afraid to blame the book. Your interest in the subject makes all the difference.

I find I often have to readjust myself while reading because I get tired of being in the same position for too long. Most frequently when I read, I will either lay, on my stomach on my bed, or sometimes on the couch. Or I like to sit up on the couch, with my feet on it, and lean against the arm rest, and if I get tired of holding the book I will lay the book on top of the arm rest of the couch. But I am not generally very good at sitting still for long periods so I often find I need to shift my position or just move around a bit.

I totally agree with that. And in this position it's always possible to take a nap in between.
I have also a very comfortable chair together with a little stool for my legs which puts me in a position between sitting and lying. I could spend my life in there...

Another vote for this position. What you need is one of those triangle foam/cotton backrests. Put it against the wall, one pillow behind you and another on your tummy. Place book on tummy pillow. Read. You won't worry about comfort ever again, but rather how to stay awake.

the comfiest position for me would be on a beach under a parasol lying upright ish on a deck chair with a cool drink by the side.
or in a comfy armchair in a garden under a parasol
or
simply in a comfy armchair somewhere in the comfiest room of the house. music or tv in the background whichever takes your fancy.
one place however that is most definitely NOT comfy is:
reading in the toilets. I cannot get over people who can do it!!

Stretched out on the bed, with plenty of pillows and cushions for back support. Something light on the radio (Chopin is often a good choice), and a cup of tea/glass of whisky to hand is also a good idea.

I don't like reading on the toilet either but you have do admit, with reading there it's not necessary to interrupt reading or to leave your comfortable position because you must go to the toilet. :biggrin5:

Sitting on the train is generally quite comfy, especially with the cool metal seats. I won't fall asleep then.
