View Full Version : Protest Elegy: in which I try new things

I smear blood around
the corner of my wrist.
Hushed lacerations
occupy my speech
like sheet lightning,
bending through words
not meant for consumption.
The blue glare of the sky
sends signals, like
"Love me faster", or
"Teach me things
I used to know",
twisting down my
spiral exoskeleton,
the spiritual embodiment
of a physical desire.
I am a skyscraper
composed mostly
of tissues, green,
yellow, and purple,
which flow delicately
in the wind of your
most tuneful breath.
And gossip. Trash talk
so exquisite it engorges
the mind, filling it
with sparkling bottles
of sparkling water
and coral-colored detritus.
Social creatures? Absolutely,
and ones so steeped
in thoughts of moral
rectitude it pleases us
to invent new modes
of drunkenness. We sigh
in the vicinity of alertness,
watching for dawn,
watching for the story
to finish its exhausting
laugh.

Thank you for your comments, and for tolerating my experiment.

What makes you think you are trying new things? This has been there since time immemorial.

Things new to me, not to the world.

It was tacitly generalized. In your case you have the inalienable right to think of it that way. Just make sure you don't lie to yourself. Have fun.
