Listening to Classical Literature on Audiobooks?

How do you feel about listening to classical works on audio?

Do you like or dislike the experience?

Also, do you ever feel as if you're missing something by not actually reading it?

Except for the fact that I can read faster than I can listen to someone reading a text, I would prefer hearing it than reading it.

Never have listened to audiobooks of classical texts and most likely never will. I prefer having a hands-on experience with the actual text. Personally, I feel that I lose a connection with the characters/plot and miss little stylistic gems that define the technique of a specific author.

With children's stories including picture books, I feel the exact opposite.

Some people I know really love them - they're already bookish people, but this makes a nice change. One of my friends uses them as something to listen to whilst walking the dog.

I've not got much experience of it myself, but I have been eyeing the complete unabridged Lord of the Rings audiobook about which I have heard so many positive things.

I can't read in cars but am on a bus for 30 minuets to school and 30 back so I like listening to all sorts of books. It's also a way to 'read' for myself when I have no time for that during the school season. I re-'read' the Hobbit this way in January and last year I listened to Complete unabridged Sherlock Holmes. Also when I'm cleaning I sometimes have a book in my ear.

I think it's a nice change but in general I prefer reading myself. When you think about it, it took me 3 months listening to Holmes, 1 hour five days a week.

There is one problem though, I don't have a good pokerface so everyone saw me cry when he died and laugh when he was funny. They say that when you can't spot the crazy person on the bus, it means it's you.

When I studied, I used to read in a bus.Sometimes people looked very strange at me seeing that I don`t read any book in polish:D

It's fine if you are listening to plays and poems, and then read them later.
