Spirit-Man

I saw the dark man dying
in the desert alone,
with no where left to go,
he chokes upon his last breath,
and still tries to rise again,
but there is no hope left,
pegged to the ground,
he fights yet and life slips
through calloused finger tips,
just like the red sands
in a hot unforgiving wind.

And there stands the man
with a white face,
we all know him as Doctor Bones,
he laughs the crows away
and calls the ravens home,
playing scales on your vertebrae.
while he whispers in my ear
songs of death both new and old.

Somewhere there is a truth
that has been buried,
somewhere there is a lie
not uncovered, and I am both
here and there.

He looks into your soul,
like a winters chill,
he is the trickster and the fool,
the wise man and the lunatic sage,
he dances where they fall.

While time conceals all,
and a desert will become
just a desert again,
a place with no name
never to be found,
anywhere, and everywhere,
you never forget
the man with the white face
who sings lullabies
to the grave.

Well written. But not the way I look at it. Seems a LITTLE racist.

This poem was written about something very personal that has nothing to do with race. It is not about any individuals nor any group of people.

Well... then get rid of statements like "they fall" which is definitely a group. And what about "the man with the white face?"

Honestly, is the world so PC that we can't write in this way anymore?

Dark Muse although this poem was personal to you, it got me thinking about the brutal treatment of border crossers by extremists which I found very powerful.

Mr Trollini - write your own poetry - we're all eager to write nonsensical comments about aspects of you!

DM, I think you are getting heckled.

Love your description of Death in the second stanza.

Always a fan.

Thank you both Buh4Bee and Delta, I appreciate your comments and support.

Yes while this poem has personal significance to me, I usually do not like to over explain and allow for free interpretation.

Good work DM. The suggestion of racism is obviously deluded. Enjoyed reading it.

This is what I call poetry from the heart. Truly thought-provoking and inspiring. A singular piece, Dark Muse.
