View Full Version : To The Masses
Revolte

Hate me all you wish,
curse and rape my smile.
Give me death and burden,
give me fright and frays.
You, that porcelain coward
sipping your grape-juice
–fermented and bitter,
it suits you well.
Judge me,
I want you to do it.
I need it,
your hate,
your pain.
Let it soak into my pores
and drug me like a slave.
Open your wounds
and suck me in,
so I may seed and suture
your sickly,
dying heart.

What masses? I think you are talking to a few insane noise makers.

Just how relative your statement is, made me laugh out loud. Not even with LOL but with AHAHAHAHAHHAHA.

Ahh, but you missed miserably. How could I hate anything like you?
I'm afraid your wit is simply too layered and deep for me to understand, cafolini, it's like seven layed dip. The top layer may be cheese, but what lies beneath? You can never know until you jam a tortilla chip in there.
I liked the poem Revolte. I feel like that sometimes too.

This is a bit twisted for my taste, but I think you do well conveying your message.

@Buh4Bee Thank you! I was in a pretty twisted state of mind, so it's good to know it wasn't wasted too much.
@Grit Thanks :)
@cafolini Well, everyone gets their turn.

If you mean "masses" as in the massive group of impoverished, marginalized, and "written-off"rock-bottom of the 99% per cent, then I'm with them.
If you mean "masses" the way Dwight Macdonald meant it as in "mass-cult," the imaginary mass market for which the cynical and greedy entertainment conglomerates manufacture shoddy products, then I'm with you (or your speaker.)
And don't get me started on the Middle Class, those Philistines!

I'm middle class...Man I thought I was reading JC's thoughts before he was executed!

I think he meant sledgehammers, Auntie.

I'm middle class...
I didn't mean your middle class,Delta -- I meant "middle class" middle class, the folks who max out their credit cards on lawn ornaments, consider eating as a recreational activity, and watch "Downton Abbey" because it makes them believe they're smart!

Oh well. I don't have any lawn ornaments. I might fill some other criteria...what's Downton Abbey?

I cannot stand "Downtown Abbey"... It is this silly pretentious, over-hyped and overacted show. I only saw a few of the pre-WW1 era episodes. I'm typically fascinated with that era but this show was simply awful IMO.
Back on topic: The piece in question is filled with raw and personal emotion. In fact it might be too personal to share with other people who might not be able to empathize with your situation and who might look at it through a critically stylistic lens. As far as I'm concerned, emotionally invested poetry is far more enjoyable to read than abstract babble about roses and sunshine. I enjoyed it and I hope you are alright because you seemed...PISSED! heh, no but seriously..hope you feel better. :)

Dropping in on this one, I was struck by how the second section trips over itself a bit too much. Although I'm not sure what 'fright and frays' are, the first bit had some rhythm which was immediately discarded soon after. Good closure though.
Not sure about the 'soak into my pores and drug me like a slave' bit. That's probably just me though. Seems a bit too much rushing the veins.
Feel free to disagree, Revolte.
Oh, and write a sickly sweet love poem sometime too, just for fun. Sometimes it's good to cleanse the palate with something you hate. :)
