How many of you like/listen to dubstep? For the record, it has to be listened to loud with heavy bass or it's kind of a waste.

This is not melody based music, it's bass based, and it's pretty different, no doubt.

I figure the average lit netter probably doesn't enjoy it, because it seems to me most people in general don't enjoy it. I absolutely love the genre. It's not for every situation or place, but very few songs can match that intensity, the absolutely immensity of sound. It makes me think of behemoths fighting in some sprawling epic war set in a colossal space ship during a supernova caused by a Cthulu, Godzilla and King Kong battle royale!

Curious to hear your thoughts, I won't be offended if you absolutely despise it, I can understand why.

It does seem to be based on a melody that keeps repeating without much variation. I haven't heard them before, but I agree with the "behemoth fighting in some sprawling epic war" idea. I suppose louder is better as you suggest. As far as intensity, I would use Janis Joplin as a basis for that. I think she was more intense, but perhaps just more familiar.

Dubstep is definitely associated with rolling on E, although I don't touch that craziness and I still like it.

Also, like any genre in this day and age, there's a lot of bad dubstep. You just gotta know what to look for.

Some good stuff if you're interested;

Anything by Nero, it's the most musical dub out there, almost symphonic. Especially the welcome reality album.

For glitch hop which is basically electronic, bassy funk, check out koan sound and opiuo.

For more main stream stuff check out skrillex ; cinema, first of the year, make it bun dem, kill everybody, and cat rats.
