Her eyes are wide open. There is an intense pain surging through her head. The pounding force of a construction worker drill on fifth avenue is unparalleled to the searing pain that is close to splitting her cranium in half.
Eyelids slowly open up and the pain intensifies as the beam of light strikes her pupils.
Head pounding, eyes bloodshot, mouth dry as a desert, she begins to open her arid lips but she simply cannot muster enough energy to mutter any words.
She is only able to make a loud groan that sends echoes running down her spine.
With her eyelids still not fully open, she is unaware of where she is, what has happened or who she is at the moment. A foul stench suddenly engulfs her nose that jerks her head back with force. She attempts to quickly shield her nose from this sickening reek but is unable to do so.
Trying hard to move her hands, she now realizes that she is not free. Her arms are bound tightly by some type of rope.
She is not able to make sense of why she would be tied up.
That disgusting odor is driving her insane. She would give anything at this point in time to make it stop.
Her wish abruptly comes to pass.
An extremely loud deafening sound cuts through the silence. This ear-splitting "BANG" rips through her ears as if she were next to a C4 blowing up.
The echoes of this vociferous noise carry on for another good minute ringing in her head.
She is completely deaf and fails to hear the thunderous "THUD" that follows suit.
Her eardrums feel like they have been torn apart. If she could make use of her arms, she would check to see if there was blood dripping out her ears.
Her heart rate sky rockets. Pounding faster and faster, it is similar to the thrumming wings of a caged bird. A sudden bloom of imaginary hot air slaps her across the face, and sweat droplets begin to trickle down her spinal cord at a snail's pace.
Her breathing is uneven now. She is gasping for air at the thought of her current predicament.
Trembling and visibly shaking as though she were stranded in the arctic, her frail figure is unable to hold back as she uncontrollably takes a leak on herself. Only now does she grasp that her quivering legs also face the same fate as her hands. They are shackled to the floor.
Terror is taking over. Her heart is racing. Sweat is pouring. That stench is still cramped up her nose. uncontrollable quickened breaths. Her anxiety is at the brink of killing her so she takes a deep and frightened heavy breath before forcefully opening her eyes.
Horror. She had never truly experienced horror until this moment .
The horrific scene that lay await for her instantly strained and sore throat.
The shriek that followed was that of a woman who was either dying or was staring at death right in the eye.
It was neither. She was gawking at half a dozen bodies on the floor in front of her. They were bloody and lifeless. They all had bullet holes through their skulls. That bang could only have been one thing. She knew what had happened. She immediately knew the identities of each body. She wished it were a dream. She prayed for this to be dream but somewhere at the back of her mind, she knew this was surreal but dreadfully real.
Her family lay before her.
Father. Mother. Three sisters and a brother. All dead.
In her moment of realization, she feels a cold steel object on the back of her head followed by a raspy voice.
"Do you have any last words before you join these sinners in the afterlife?"
She cries and whispers, "I am coming."
Another loud bang fills the air as blood spatters everywhere.
There is only silence.
