If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” was once said by Barack Obama and have made a mark on Cesar Montealto’s mind.
One day when Cesar was driving on his way home, he passed by a car stranded on the side of the road. He noticed that the driver was an old lady and needed help. So he pulled up in front of the old lady’s car and got out. He automatically approached the old lady. Even with the smile on his face, he still noticed that the old lady was worried.
The old lady then thought “Why is he here? Is he going to hurt me? What will happen to me now?”
Immediately, Cesar sensed that the old lady was frightened, being alone there at one of Houston’s dark creepy road. Then he broke the silence by saying, “Don’t worry ma’am, I’m here to help you. Why don’t you just wait inside the car where it is warm? Hmmm… By the way allow me to introduce myself, I’m Cesar Montealto.”
When the old lady went inside her car, Cesar checked what was wrong with the old lady’s car. He then figured out that she had just a flat tire but for an old lady like her, it is a big disaster. Cesar crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire but he got very dirty and hurting hands due to the coldness.
The old lady rolled down the window and began to talk.
“Thank you so much for helping me. I’m from Katy and I was only passing by. I don’t know how to thank you enough. .” she said, and Cesar just smiled while closing his trunk.
“How much do I owe you? Any amount would be all right for me. I even can’t imagine what will happen to me if you didn’t stop.” she said.
“I never thought of asking you anything for return. If the only way that I can help and give hope to others is doing this kind of gesture, I will certainly do this again and again.” he replied.
But then he added, “If you really want to pay me back, I will just ask you one important favor.”
“What is it? I would be very glad to hear it.” she replied.
“The next time you see someone who needed help, you should give that person the assistance they needed and then think of me. By that way, you can also give hope to other people.” he said.
