Hard to define, but I think of classical beauty as more "formal", as opposed to casual beauty; technically flawless vs. more natural.

Interesting. Do you think classical is more of a ''clichéd look a sex symbol one like Marilyn Monroe. Could that be a classic look?

I agree that formal seems more classical.
Whenever I think classical beauty, I think of dark lipstick and ringlet curls. I guess early 1900s.

Gilliat these are truly interesting pictures. I like the dichotomy in the images.
LAdy Gaga is looking rather flowered.
I like your avatar because Sophia Loren use to be one of my favourite actresses of all time. She still is. I am glad to see her in the picture so to speak. As a teenager I found her beauty truly memorable. I still think today her beauty is rather exceptional :) In fact I would now place Sophia Loren as the classical beauty.
Bound feet, blackened teeth, flattened breasts, thin, and unable to work.
Oops, wrong continent.

Basically you tightly wrap a child's feet so they cannot grow normally, and the bones break, causing the foot to grow upward and rot, basically forming the heal of a platform shoe out of bone. You go from a size 8 women's foot to a shoe too small for a child.
This was done in China well into the beginning of the 20th century. The blackened teeth and breast binding were also practiced in parts of China well into the 20th century, as well as in Japan. Teeth blackening in Japan went out during the Meiji era.
Basically the ideal form of woman as depicted by social practices in ancient china is bound-feet, black teeth, bound breasts. Which seems almost barbaric to us today.
Classical beauty? Beauty as defined in books of literature or it is poetic beauty. It is everything in their perfect arrangement. The size of the eye, the nose, the ear, the height, the breast, the wave of hair and the rest go to their perception.

It is indeed formal as you said and in fact it is found not in reality but in the immortal verses

Hi osho but isn't that asymmetrical rather classical.
Take classical music. It is formal from the outset and informal from the inset. Ie one writes to play. Imagine playing classical music on a whim without a conductor or a writer. Just a piece on a whim and then one learns by ear and replay it again without notes whatsover. The genius is in the listening not the writing.
Beauty is culture centric. In one culture girls with big hips and breasts, thick lips are attractive and in another the opposite. White skin is a beauty and in ancient India and still today in some parts of it blackness is a thing of beauty. Nudity notwithstanding its cultural nonacceptance is a thing of beauty and arts are illustrative of this fact

Beauty is impossible to define as exact there is one born every minute. I could not define beauty until I have seen it.
Nudity for is me is not beauty it is someone without clothes on. I prefer clothes because I find the fashion industry without the skinny models interesting because of the element of creativity and the fabrics one gest to feel on the skin.
Nudity makes think of cold and the weather. Nature may not enjoy naked bodies running around it. Who knows if nature spoke it may well say no nudity allowed it is too bloody cold.

cacain, it is not always the same. At times we want nudity and again the wrappers wrapping it and of course it depends on the mood. Nudity is a subject of ,many artists.
Nudity is our natural form and the ornament or the covering is our acquired entity.
Beauty does not need a wrapper and if we can see nature in its rawness it will dazzle us and today we want beauty through its translations. Let us observe a rose in the garden not in a bouquet. Let us beauty dance like butterflies hopping here and there without anything to stop it.
