He, of course survives the miserable church for which he's forced to speak occasionally to avoid unemployement and the tower. That's why reading Quevedo is important in complementation to Balthasar. Note if you read Quevedo that he never attacked Balthasar at all because he understood the enemy well, i.e., Gongora, a meaningless, Platonic, master of images.
