I'm trying to find a poem for my mum. My grandfather used to tell it to her and she used to quote bits to me and now does to my children. But she can't remember the full version and Google searches are proving fruitless.
The part we do remember goes something like:
"I won't be washed" said Freddie
"I've dressed alone today
So I've come into the garden
To hide myself away"
I think it must be an old cautionary tale of sorts as Freddie goes on to wish himself a bird to avoid getting washed. Then he becomes a little bird in a nest and regrets his wish when he gets fed a wriggly worm.
Any ideas would be really appreciated.
