Fun factoid about the Grimm Brothers ,though it doesn't answer the question why they're called "The Brothers Grimm" ( a la the Karamozov boys):

They were philologists before they were collectors of folklore. In fact they famously identified a phenomenon about the history of language which has their name on the top: Grimms' Law. Don't remember if it was about vowels or what. Even so, they switched career fields, presumably because they was no money to be made jotting down words but tons of it promoting children's lit. You'll note that in both cases they worked as a team.
