Hello,
I am looking for a short story and can't remember the title or author. I'm going to summarize it and if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it!
The story is set in the late 19th/early 20th century. It starts with a woman, who narrates the story, and her husband riding in their horse carriage to a house where a woman has murdered her husband. When they arrive at the house, the narrator's husband leaves the narrator and another woman in the kitchen while he and other men look around the house to investigate. The two women in the kitchen start cleaning up and notice that the kitchen is in a condition that indicates that the murderer was maybe not in her right mind. The two women hint that they know the woman's husband wasn't always that nice to her. They feel like they know what happened, and they agree without saying it out loud not to inform the men/husbands.
Any one have any idea the name of this story or who wrote it? Or just a clue? I'm going insane trying to find this story!
