In view of the tidal wave of trivia that has engulfed this forum in recent times it would seem that the best policy is, if you can't beat them, join them.
So here is my humble contribution to the (non) debate:

Should back-scratchers be made of wood or plastic?

if you can't beat them, join them.

This would have been an interesting, nontrivial topic as it influences the lives of people young and old and can be discussed in the context of everything from frivolous romantic fluff literature to popular twitter and facebook comments.

As for your random, leap-on-the-bandwagon question...

I like reading, and reading things on paper, and paper is made of wood, and so I guess I'd prefer wood. :)

I was considering doing something similar to this myself. It is starting to get more than a little bit ridiculous. I wonder whether the mods could impose a weekly limit on thread creation? Say, no user can create more than three new threads a week? Without wishing to name names, I do rather feel like LitNet is rapidly becoming a one-person show.

Anyway, here is my considered and thought-through answer to your question:

well does it can with back scartching! Does it wolc enough off the back, you know. By plastic doe you mean a tic made of plas? I like wood it reminds me of me. I means that literally, not systematically. money making Yes this is a good idea. What are oranges I have no idea.

Of course the answer is wood. No contest.

although I am not sure what a back-scratcher means in metaphorical sense I may answer it without and I would say this:
neither. should there not be made at all if that is the only choice. for plastics dissolves and wood rots.
should there be made at all?

Actually, I don't care what it is made of as long as it helps me scratch my back. My favorite back scratcher is the edge of a wall which is painted plasterboard in my case.

LOL this reminds me of the word back-scruber. one of the Smith's song entitled:

Half a Person

Call me morbid, call me pale
I've spent six years on your trail
Six full years of my life on your trail
And if you have five seconds to spare
Then I'll tell you the story of my life :
Sixteen, clumsy and shy
I went to London and I,
I booked myself in at the Y ... W.C.A.
I said : "I like it here - can I stay ?
I like it here - can I stay ?
Do you have a vacancy
For a Back-scrubber?"

Limiting threads is exactly what I was thinking. Having hyper threaders on the forum may on the surface be good for business as far as the owners are concerned but it is ultimately self-defeating in that it drives away those who do have something genuine to contribute and interest among visitors falls off in consequence.

I take your point about back-scratchers but I think it lacks the intellectual content of Cacian's reply.

On reflection, a better title for the thread would have been: Which do you find more annoying? Mental fatigue from plumbing the depths of the inconsequential or writers' cramp from typing it all out.

LMFAO!

Will a back scratcher made of flesh n bone and called Sven in the Sistine chapel make the opposite of what I'm not when I don't write like myself or there for meaning?

Thanks for starting this thread Emil, it is a great topic for discussion.
Funny thing, I had purchased several bamboo back scratchers this past Christmas as gift for family members.
I prefer wood for the natural beauty. Bamboo is a sustainable wood for those who bleed green.
Zebra wood, Purple Heart or Cocobolo would make absoulutely stunning backscratchers.

Here is a chess set made of Cocobolo (don't let Neely see this, he'll go nuts)

I find the rustic unplastered stonework at the top of our stairs excellent for sloughing off dead skin. I also like to think I'll be leaving a little bit of myself behind should I ever leave here.
