“Never take a picture of a Sasquatch foot print without a scale!”
Dr. Jeff Meldrum, PhD. (From 2013 Texas Bigfoot Conference)
Upon hearing those words, I never felt more at home sitting in room 203 at the Fort Worth Convention Center on a sunny spring day, March 16th. I whispered to my son; “isn’t it great to be alive?”
Whether it’s the Marfa Lights in West Texas, Aliens from Roswell, Wooly Bugger or the Fouke Monster from Arkansas, Texas and her neighboring States have so much to offer.
My son and I attended the Texas Bigfoot Conference yesterday (March 16) at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The conference was sponsored by the North American Wood Ape Conservancy, formerly known as Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy. http://www.texasbigfoot.com/
I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little from our experience.
First a little ditty to get us in the mood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in1eK3x1PBI
Refer to the following link for the list of speakers and their credentials:

We ended up only staying for two presentations, the first being Dr. Jeff Meldrum’s Sasquatch-Legend Meets Science followed by Kyle Blackburn’s The Beast of Boggy Creek-The True Story of the Fouke Monster

While I personally have no faith in Bigfoot (or relatives) I enjoy that such a conference and such a community exists, and think I would find this conference interesting. One day I will make it to the southern states.

Louisiana is prime realestate for Bigfoot or, as the NAWAC is trying to promote, "North American Wood Ape".

We'll plan an expedition now that I have the laminated field guide.
One point that both speakers mentioned is that even for those who think the Bigfooter's have lost their marbles trapesing through the woods, one still experiences the side benefits being in the great outdoors, camping, hiking, commoraderie around the camp.
I have to admit, it would be fun to join in on a search. Seeing how I made the leap to attend a conference, don't be surprised to hear that I went on a "hunt".

The past two or three years that I happened to check the TBRC website, I noticed the conferences were in Tyler. When I noticed Fort Worth was the location this year, there was no stopping me. hehe. There's always next year. If she lives in or around the Ouachita mountain area, then she may just bump into one.
That does sound better than "skunk ape"!!
There's a new movement among the culture to do away with the term "Bigfoot" and move toward "wood ape".
I agree, "skunk ape" doesn't have a pleasent ring to it. I do like "Wooly Bugger" though.

Here on the ice there are so many creatures said to be living with us and the 'believe' in elves is a bigger part of us than we care to admit really. When it come to big feet trolls of all shapes and sizes come to mind and 13 of them visit our youngsters before Christmas every year.
My thought these days are with a certain being that lives in a big lake, it's kinda our 'Nellie' but because of some stupid factories and stuff almost all life is dead in the lake so I guess they finally managed to kill our mysterious monster.

Thanks for sharing that.
Did you mean to say "Nessie?" Anyhow, can you share more about your ice creature? Did it achieve a nickname status?
It gets more depressing as each year passes by without irrefutable evidence of Nessie or Bigfoot turning up.
The search must go on.

The Bermuda Triangle!, another classic from the world of the unexplained. Thanks for bringing that one to the table Calidore. Holding the Wood Ape (notice I’m using the new lingo) conference somewhere in the Triangle would be risky; since there’s no guarantee that attendees would safely arrive.
Do I need to remind you of Flight 19 ?
I made my own attempt at mixing two unexplained phenomenon. At the conference I wore my “Roswell Mystery Cover Up” tee shirt with a “Gray’s” head on the front to see what kind of reaction I might get. There were a couple of smirks from two of the speakers I passed in the Lobby, but for the most part folks gave me the nod of approval. Carrying a note pad aided in my attempts to blend in.
A couple of guys were in awe of me saying, “we’re not worthy”
My son spoke with Dr. Meldrum about Sasquatch nest structures, as they conversed I was strategically positioning myself in a manner that would allow Dr. Meldrum to see my shirt. I caught him glancing a couple of times, but to no avail.
Btw – Refer to the following chart for typical “Gray”. The pic was taken at the UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell.

YesNo you've just beaten me to it.
I was in Millets the other day and a tall hairyish bloke was asking for some size 14 boots. I reckon tired of the harsh life hiding in forests, Bigfoot has moved into the cities, much like the urban fox has. There he has taken advantage of all the oppotunities that are on offer, including international travel and paid employment. I dare say a few diehard Bigfoot naturists are still out there, giving the run-around to organised expeditions, and suprising unprepared trippers who have no tape measure or camera.

After all, the U.S. is known as the melting pot and the ingredients aren’t necessarily restricted to homo sapiens, particularly in states further east of here. I’m afraid some Sqautchers are doin a little more than taking plaster casts if you get my drift. The furry fondue has produced some interesting results.
Apparently the new hybrid species has found their way across the pond as evidenced by your Millets sighting.
I found this article from the DailyMail online, take note of the Van Gogh replica:

Here it’s the Coyote, Bobcat and Red Tailed Hawk that are learning to adapt to the urban environment, as development continues to consume more of their natural habitat. There’s another urban critter that made its way up from South America, originating in Puerto Rico that fits in well among legendary varmints. I speak of the “Chupacabra”, one nasty, blood sucking SOB. (the female canine reference is intentional)

I know very little about those light orbs and this is the first I've heard of the Marfa Lights. They do look similar. Before I heard of these light orbs, I thought the UFO talk was nonsense. Now that it doesn't have to be caused by aliens, I find it more intriguing. I found out about this after reading about Eben Alexander's near-death experience.

I was not familiar with Eben Alexander. After a quick Wiki search, I learned of the book you are referring to. Not meaning to make light of his book, but I had to chuckle at what awaits in the afterlife according to Eben or at least as Wiki stated it. Along with "...angels, clouds, and departed relatives, but also including butterflies and beautiful girls in peasant dress".
That last one just struck me as unusual, I'm not complaining mind you, just seemed odd when thrown in with angels and relatives.

I did a quick search and found this excerpt from a July 22. 2010 Coventry Telegraph article:
“August 20, 1998
Coventry estate agent Timothy Price, a Coventry University graduate, planned an expedition to find the Beast of Claverdon. He also wanted to unravel the mystery of a similar wild cat seen near Leamington in 1997 and a smaller, lynx-like creature spotted in Allesley. Mr Price was convinced many exotic cats were released into the wild by owners in the wake of the 1976 Dangerous Wild Animals Act which banned the keeping of such creatures without a licence.”

Be thankful it is some type of large feline and not the chupacabra.
There have been numerous appearances of Christ or Mary in common items over here too, whether it be glass on a building in Florida or grill cheese sandwich (not kidding). In fact I seem to recall the sandwich was offered on E-bay. (again-not kidding)

I wonder how one preserves the grill cheese sandwich or the shape of the cushion. I guess a photo is all that is necessary. Regarding the cushion, I could sort of see two eyes, a long nose and what might be part of a mustache.
Edit: I figured I might as well search for "how to preserve a grilled cheese sandwich showing an image of Jesus" and I got an article with a picture of the grilled cheese sandwich. I am more impressed by search engines than the grilled cheese sandwich.

Preserving the grill cheese sandwich would be relatively easy by casting or suspending it in clear acrylic resin similar to preserving wedding or funeral flowers, etc. I'm sure the sandwich is dried hard so there's no concern with deforming the shape when moving it.
The pillow is certainly a challenge. My approach would be to set up the spray rig and gently apply several coats of clear lacquer. Caution must be taken not to get the spray nozzle too close or the air pressure will deform the fabric.

I hope they find Nessie safe and sound. In looking at maps I didn't realize that the Loch Ness was this long lake and that Scotland was seemingly being split in two by a fault line from Inverness to Fort William.
I also wonder what those bright spots on the dwarf planet Ceres are.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to (twice actually) - without any Nessie sightings, alas.

I can respect that, GG. I have long wished to dress in a gorilla suit and bring consternation to Yorkshire terriers throughout the South. In this case, however, I'm skeptical. The alleged North American Wood Ape in your video was far too gracile for a Bigfoot. It was probably an Australopithecus aferensis: an exotic pet once a fad in the Carolinas, but now frequently abandoned by bored owners, with tragic consequences for the ecosystem. Granted female Bigfeet are smaller (the Eastern North American Wood Ape is notorious for its promiscuous sexual dimorphism), but a close view of the video suggests that the individual in question was entering tall weeds in search of a place to take a leak--wilderness behavior usually associated with males, especially in North Carolina. "Get away from here...get!....get!" is, alas, the usual response.

My hunch is, the fella has already taken care of his business back in the woods to the left of the road. Notice how Zippy issues forth a couple obligatory barks, feigning interest in the wood ape, but immediately turns to the woods with more, how shall we say…dogged interest.
I’m here to tell you, Zippy is look’n for some Bigfoot scat to roll around in!
What we’re witnessing in the video, is a wood ape’s natural inclination to rapidly depart the scene of the crime, kind of like cats do just after they make a deposit in the box.
Here’s what Dr. Jeff Meldrum has to say about Sasquatch scat, quoted from my autographed copy of his “Sasquatch Field Guide”, published by Discovery Guides c 2013:
“…Therefore, their [wood ape, sasquatch, et al] scat may be very similar in appearance to bear
Scat. If solid, bear scat is formed in thick cords up to 3 inches in diameter…”
“…Sasquatch scat has been described as similar to bear or human, but of much greater quantity”

You may be right, Gilbert. Such a prospect would be difficult for any of us to resist and may account for the repugnant, skunk-like odor mentioned by Thomas Byers in the Shelby Star video above. Mr Byers is quick to attribute the stench to Bigfoot's limited personal hygiene, but Bigfoot himself has recently issued a press release in which he alleges that Mr Breyers is "one to talk." I suspect the affable local may have had a good roll himself.

The resemblance between bear and Bigfoot feces (also known as "sasquat") lends further credence to your "woods first" scenario if we extrapolate from the time-tested "Does a bear?" model. Note also that "Scat! Scat!" is a common variation of the North Carolinian vernacular "Get! Get!" Explain that away, skeptics!

"Gilbert" ? hmmm, I will admit, it rolls off the tongue a little easier. You make a good point with the "bear in the woods" reference. Having residue reside in the rump fur is by design, allowing the wood ape to mark territory by twerking against a tree to relieve the rash.
Dr. Meldrum used a permanent ink "Sharpie" to sign the field guide due to the glossy surface of the lamination.

Like Bigfoot's poo, his DNA ends up looking an awful lot like a bear's. Also a dog's. And a horse's. And a cow's. And that of "a hairy human being," apparently a Texan. (Must get mighty lonely out on the trail!) Some of the Himalayan samples are interesting in that they may suggest the existence of a hitherto unknown bear, but evidence for the North American Wood Ape remains the pile of scat it always was:
http://time.com/2948745/dna-analysis-debunks-bigfoot-myth-points-to-unknown-bear-species/
Edit: Ooooh, possums, too! Now that's just wrong. And the crypto-bears turn out to be regular bears after all, an error conceded by the analysts themselves. The hairy Texan did not return our calls. ;-)

(lines 17 - 24)
She sleeps: her breathings are not heard
In palace chambers far apart.
The fragrant tresses are not stirred
That lie upon her charmèd heart.
She sleeps; on either hand upswells
The gold-fringed pillow lightly prest:
She sleeps, nor dreams, but ever dwells
A perfect form in perfect rest.
Good night gentlemen it's back to the real world tomorrow.

The problem with skeptics and debunkers, Pompey Bum, is that they look to me often as nutty as those they are trying to debunk. Not that there is anything wrong with being nutty. We need all kinds (for what I'm not sure). The apparent fact that they can't identify what species the DNA belongs to does not help their credibility.

Well gee, YN, I'm really not sure that those nuts at Time Magazine and University College London (whose alumni, by the way, include John Stuart Mill, Alexander Graham Bell, and "Mahatma" Gandhi) particularly care what names you call them. For the record, though, the samples in question were identified as known species--bear, dog, cow, etc. Science does not always give you the answer your imagination would like, but (IMHO) consequent ad hominem attacks amount to temper tantrums. They certainly should not be confused with rational discourse.

Good point, Gill. So true, so true. And it brings up an important tip for Defensive Bigfoot Maneuvers (D-BMs for short) - if I'm getting chased through the forest by a Bigfoot, I'll have an advantage. You see, I won't be slipping in sh*t.

The plaque said it was a "Gigantopithecus", the largest primate to ever walk the Earth. It lived here between 9 million and 400,000 years ago - same as Homo erectus - and grew to 10 feet tall and weighed in at 1,200 pounds.

I'm glad you noticed that, PB, Nessie comes with her ribs conveniently pre-sauced. Although, come to think of it, as a Scot I suppose she would be sauced. Now, as to who done manufacture this here remains of Nessie, I think the Scottish tourist board is a safe bet, what with that old black & white photo having yielded all the tourist and kook investigator money it's ever going to. Today's dumb-arse needs something far more multimedia, like a full-blown skeleton which conveniently doubles as a source of haggis and barbecued ribs. Now we just need an old lady in a highland cottage able to prove she'd mated with the thing years earlier and bred a clan of half-human/half-Nessie highlanders, ready to rise up again like their Jacobite ancestors.

I don't believe in "many worlds"--a supposed interpretation of quantum physics that says every time I fart I create a copy of the universe in every direction that fart could have occurred. I don't believe in Santa Claus either, but if I had to choose, that is, I were forced to choose between many worlds and Santa Claus, I would pick Santa.

I also don't believe we put actual human beings on the moon during the Apollo missions in the early 1970's. We might have had the technical ability to put some robotic rovers on the moon that could scoop up rubble and deposit a retroreflector there, but that is about it. Most of the rubble from the Moon probably came from Antarctica where the perma-snow made it easy to spot meteorites.
I only mention the Apollo missions to stir up some controversy. Most people don't believe in many worlds. Most people don't think we are simulations of some master race of humans or machines. It is not easy to get someone excited about that stuff, because they don't believe it either.
But Big Foot. If there is a Sasquatch then that would be a speciation event. I keep hearing of species dying, but I don't know of any new species today and yet speciation events must have occurred based on the fossil record.

That's the spirit, PB. ;-) YesNo, what gives with the poking of your finger in our chests? Pompey Bum had the right approach here, as far as a response goes. We're all friends here, if you want to provoke people maybe this isn't the best site for it, eh what?

I see you are upset. My apologies. So what precisely don't you want me to talk about?

When I was little my babysitter's husband had a jackalope mounted on the wall in the dining room.

He trapped it himself.
YES; the Jackalope, how could I have forgotten this one?
Ranchers out west have been using them for cattle herding.
Thanks JW and nice to see some of the old faces snooping around.

Gentlemen, we are all friends here and and as the OP of this thread I take responsibility for stirring the pot with my Nessie update, allowing the topics to spin off course. With all this talk of sustainability, climate change and what not, I was trying to reduce my carbon [big]footprint, by recycling this old bigfoot thread for other cryptid topics.
btw Y/N for the moon landing subject I suggest digging back through the annals of our old friend Musicology, I seem to recall one or two of his threads that spoke to this.
Now, Y/N, TC, I propose a toast to Sasaquatch, Wild Turkey and Robert H. Goddard, the fourth shot glass is for the big eared rodent.

I remember Musicology. At that time I still thought we sent manned missions to the moon. Or actually, I never gave it a thought.
