Silly thread, but what the hell. If you could be any writer or musician who would you be and why?

Having sympathised with the punks, I would be Sid Vicious. LOL But I was never a drug addict, so I would have learned how to play quickly, like he did from 1977 on and keep it. Sad story. He could have become one of the best. His mother was mentally ill. She confessed killing him with an overdose to keep him from going to jail over the murder of his girl.
Silly thread, indeed.

With the exception of the last few years, Wilde seems to have had a lot of fun. Maybe Wordsworth or Coleridge - they seemed to just lounge around the countryside, luxuriating in life.

J.K Rowling... for purely mercenary reasons. With the money I could then write (or rather paint) as I see fit.

There are several statements made by Wilde which I liked. For example: don't wish too much for anything to happen because it might happen.
But you are correct. When he tried to recant during his last few years, it was a nightmare for poor Wilde. He couldn't do it consistently with his earlier stuff.

Off the top of my head, how about Jascha Heifetz.

I don't like the spotlight or people knowing me so I would rather be married to one than be one. I could have the intellectual chat with him and not have the pressure of writing another book before Christmas or anything like that.

But having undergone the sex change, would you still want to paint as you saw fit?

.......or possibly Barry Manilow

How about J.D. Salinger, then, Helga? You could be reclusive and do what you damn well please-or not.

Jim Morrison or possibly Barry Manilow (Damn, this is hard!)

Those are two very different musicians, Tony. How did you come up with those? Also, it's hard to see you enjoying Barry Manilow (although I did like Mandy :D).
