which item do you have the most or too much of?
for example:
Imelda Marcos had billions of shoes. A shoe fetish or just a shoe junky? you decide.
Boxes of Christmas cards and notecards. The illustrations are so nice.

Yeah, at what point do you go from a lady who like cats to "that crazy cat lady"? 3 cats? 10 cats? 47 cats?

My personal vice is books, but I wouldn't have thought that would be too shameful a thing to admit to here! My main issue is that I have long since run out of shelving, and now most of my floors are hidden underneath the strata of books.

Hi loka you won't very soon. Consider ipad tablets. They should occupy the shelves soon instead.Imagine the cost of electricity heating up fast. :)
The other thing I have a feeling is that books will become the new antique. It is bound to. I won't sell them because they will never be worth the price.
One cannot buy time I say ;)

People around me would probably say books cause I don't just buy a whole lot of them I also spend so much time cleaning them, organizing them and counting them. But I don't think I have to many books, I am an avid tea and coffee mug collector. I live alone and I have about 30 different cups, the funny thing is I always use the same teacup and I have like 4 favorite coffee cups but I still buy more and more whenever I find one I like. At the moment I am longing for a cup on amazon that says : May spontaneously start talking about Star Trek. and one from the moomintrolls, I love cups

Hi Helga collecting cups sounds fun.It is normal to want to only use one cup it is just a habit. I do the same but that is I am very organised in routine. I do not like to spend time searching a cup when I know which one is mine.
We humans also get attached to objects we may not use because attachements with our own same somehow does not seem to click very well all the time. It just means we like to attach ourselves with others but we are insecure about it.
I was just reading your avatar 'live long and prosper' is that soemthing you obide by?
And about
''May spontaneously start talking about Star Trek.'' Is that something you want because it talks to you or is it that you are a Star Trek fan?

'Live long and prosper' is what Vulcans say on Star Trek, it's a part of their culture and believe system, I just have it cause it's a famous quote from Spock. The cup would probably work as a real warning because I can get ST into any discussion no matter what and I do all the time.
There is also a Spock quote in my signature and my dogs have names from ST characters so you can say I'm a big fan.

Like Lokasenna, I was going to say 'books' - the people who helped me move would second that. The strange thing is that in the new house, I have the same amount of shelving as in the old one but somehow, the books don't all fit on them anymore.
Then I saw Helga's post about cups and realised that I too have far too many mugs. I began buying them when I went on holiday or to a special place, thinking how nice it would be to drink my morning coffee and remember the good time I'd had when I bought the mug. At the time I was not very mobile and thought I wouldn't be getting about very much. Then I had a couple of ops and started travelling as much as I could - so the mug collection grew. I have two mugtrees which hold the dozen in everyday use, then a special shelf in the glass-fronted cabinet that holds the mugs I brought back from abroad and there are several in a box in a cupboard because they are an odd size that don't fit anywhere comfortably. Then there are the sets kind people bought me way back when I was making up a matching set of tableware or because they thought we needed larger mugs...I have difficulty explaining to people that I don't just collect mugs, I use them as souvenirs of places I have visited and a present from their holiday is not the same thing at all.

I have too many notebooks. Not that I'm complaining. I love collecting them. :) I can't write on them though because they're just too gorgeous to write in. My handwriting will most likely ruin the notebooks. Haha!
