Opens pocket sundial, unsteady with motion
Boat dips and rocks as seagulls flock
Arriving to pier, rope thrown to secure
Worn sandals touch steady ground
Drawn by suggestion, proclaiming direction
This impulse he obeyed
Into the bazaar, past potters with clay
Towards the Temple, he didn't delay
Gypsum statues line the path, to entrance
He spots two priests laugh
Stature revealed, after cordial exchange
They soon pointed way
He grabs torch, now underground
Subterranean gallery is found
Obscure pictures on columns, he couldn't decipher
But he liked that tiger!
Murmur of voices echo from dark, stepping forth
Hierophants - keepers of Sacred Art
Rigorous training they passed, mysterious secrets bestowed
No foreigner usually told
Yet some things are sensed, so one exception
Was the pretense
A musical air, descended from where?
As fragrant smoke rolled throughout
Suddenly shifting atmosphere
White robe clad hierophant, with blue hems, began to speak:
"Plants grow and decay, galaxies
much the same way
Form morphs 'n changes, but notice
Across eons, patterns the same"
White robe clad heirophant, with red hems, began to speak:
"Logical conclusions, gathered by intellect
from the inner to outer it reflects
What dominion! Over every
square inch, causal links lurk
Unity they shirk
But Mind at work"
White robe clad heirophant, with yellow hems, began to speak:
"See particular with identity
Striving - awareness
To carry untold purpose
This sounds like you?
A stretch for the whole?
What if you had
similar goals?
To create and express, what charges your chest
Some vision, for the world to see, what you do enthusiastically
'Cause when you're alive, no doubt others thrive"
White robe clad heirophant, with silver hems, began to speak:
"Behold! the link between energy 'n action
Do what you want, but the feelings always match it
Oh what magic! A safety net, to ensure good
For what builds up, gathers luck
And what degrades, soon passes away
This reciprocal nature, I stress every day
For how can the universe be without meaning,
if certain things are favored?
If there was no direction,
why ensure it kept progressin'?"
White robe clad heirophant, with brown hems, began to speak:
"Spark of life within nearly equals intellect
Have you heard a dead body speak yet?
What is inspiration, but overflowing
energetic ideas?
You will sooner split an atom, than
separate these two, so entwined they are
You've journeyed far, consider who you are"
Herodotus wanted to see the Sphinx
He did, yet he couldn't answer the riddle
So he got ate.
