dark desire

I am still new to the field. One and a half semesters of masters in English Literature. Excitement and inclinations towards a variety of specific directions is driving me crazy. Sometimes I get interested in literature of the old past. I think renaissance is very exciting. The first time (or so they say) that arts saw tremendous change in a relatively short period of time. I read a bit of Walter Pater, a little from online courses available on the internet. Then interest flies off to post-structuralism and I start thinking in terms of deconstructing established ideas and ideologies (through my own writing; there is confusion regarding career in literary studies and my own creative interests). To go deeper into it I go back to Nietzsche and from Nietzsche opens up romanticism. I try to stay there for a while, reading bits of William Blake and William Wordsworth. Then I start feeling sickly distant from the hustle bustle of the world around me. And I pick up a newspaper. For a while it looks refreshingly real. Then I switch on the television, a news channel, listen to the debates intently till a point I start feeling that things are too noisy here. Slowly I am drawn again into the world of renaissance. In between I read some satirical writings. There is disenchantment with the English literature education that I am currently going through. I don't like the syllabus. I want to pick something and go deep into it. I don't know what to go deep into. I don't know what it can be. It's not that I don't enjoy all this messy exploration. It's just that I feel that I might be ruining my career by gambling with interests in this manner.
What are the future career opportunities and paths in this field? I have been gutsy so far as far as career is concerned. Feel free to suggests wild leaps of imagination and possibilities. I do want to go to Europe. For the record, I am in India, a country that was colonized by the British. In the country-side English literature education might not be so good. But I am at the capital of the country, which is also a major education hub.
