Who are you
to come ring-a-ringing with bad news
way past midnight?
Beware, or I'll destroy you
the way I squashed that fly last summer,
even though it made for a bad karma
How I long for smoke signals –
they could mean birth or death
or that the wood just wasn't dry

An interesting poem Dieter.
What I get from it is that the narrator seems to want a distance between him/her and real life - embodied in the message/ bells/ phone and the fly. They seem to be reluctantly involved in life and wish for a distance - perhaps they want protection from:
bad karma / emotional involvement
birth - family/ relationships
and death.
I like it.

Paulclem, thanks a lot for reading and commenting, and my sincere apalogies for not answering sooner! I'm very glad you liked my little offering. Sure, I had many things on my mind, so that's certainly one of the reasons behind these lines.
