Hello everyone,:seeya:

I decided to join this group and post some of my poetry. I wrote 'Edgar Allan Poe!' after thinking about how a poem linking some of Poe's most popular works might look like. As far as the poem's style and verse, it is a story poem that I let the poem write itself. It is pure fantasy, but I hope that you will like it.

Edgar Allan Poe,
heaven and hell must have vied for your soul.
For as you flew with that craven raven
singing dancing upon a cloud
to nevermore, your tell-tale heart
beat to the sway of its own pendulum arc,
but your euphoric immortality abruptly ended
when you tripped over a measly looking
one-eyed black cat that carried on its back
a deadly scarab with the touch of death,
the eventual source to your oblong chest.

Some of the imagery here was quite good.

The eventual source to your oblong chest

This is a fantastic line. The word oblong is such a perfect signifier of so many things here.

But your euphoric immortality abruptly ended

Another line I quite enjoyed. The juxtaposition of euphoric immortality with abruptly ended is quite good, a sudden leap is made from one end of the spectrum to the other, without the in-between. I like that.

However, craven raven is a rather poor rhyme to end the second line. I'd suggest finding a better adjective than craven here, without that internal rhyme of sorts.

And starting the poem Edgar Allen Poe is rather unnecessary, and puts one off before one even begins to read it. The title is already there, I'd get rid of that line, and let the poem stand for itself, without his name.

I suppose, I found the beginning rather weak, and the end quite strong.

Cheers.
