Is it necessary [or obligatory] that familial relationships be maintained post-adolescence?

A person must become relatively independent at some point in life or not. But pretending to erase the past I think is a stupidity.

I fail to see why it is a stupid question, Alexander.

I'm merely curious as to whether there is something inherently special about familial relationships that somehow makes them indispensable throughout one's life. Friendships occasionally end. Yet relationships with one's parents or siblings often continue despite volatile circumstances.

Enlighten me, unless you are only capable of giving stupid answers.
