Have you ever looked a people, either individual or in groups, and wondered how it was they continued to do such things to themselves and each other? Such senselessness. Have you ever looked deeply inside yourself and wondered just the same? We are all complicit, nobodies hands are clean. To live is to believe the lie you have formed your life on. One thing I have to say is, after reading such novels I am inclined to disregard the author and his philosophy, you can only call so much into question before you call yourself into question, it is quite a paradox. For example if I believe everything is ultimately meaningless I can't possibly gain any meaning from this work or any other. But if I am inclined to believe certain things have meaning I can gain meaning from this work which proclaims meaningless and calls everything into the grey. Quite a beautiful novel at times, has anyone read it?

We read this for the book club a few years ago, I'll see if I can find the thread.
