Ever since I opened my heart,
And rinsed out the blood
To allow room for love—
Since then, I’ve taken the form of an electron.
I’m forever lost in a spacious cloud,
Exerting energy whilst trying to pull
Myself in closer towards the intangible nucleus—
The heart of the atom—the soul of life.
But other electrons are getting in the way;
Like an impenetrable wall of shields
That one would see at the Battle of Thermopylae,
Keeping me away from the ever-so-attractive nucleus.
But whether I reach it or not—
Whether there actually is an electric connection,
Or it’s simply illusory chemistry—
Is irrelevant.
For they say there’s a proton for every electron.
However, I’m the odd one out—the one in one hundred
Who is not attracted to the pleasantly receptive proton,
But, rather, the indifferent neutron.
And so I stand a speck on the planet—
So infinitesimally miniscule that my presence
Isn’t even acknowledged when totaling the masses—
Waiting for another nucleus to trap me in its pull.
And rinsed out the blood
To allow room for love—
Since then, I’ve taken the form of an electron.
I’m forever lost in a spacious cloud,
Exerting energy whilst trying to pull
Myself in closer towards the intangible nucleus—
The heart of the atom—the soul of life.
