Alas, I'm not American. We do do SATs but at the end of primary school (and in my day, the second year of primary school).

I was a very indifferent high school student...Never bothered to take the SAT. I took the back door into college - went to a little community college to get enough credits so that no one would ever ask for my high school transcripts or SAT scores again.
