I guess it relates to the methods used to assert what we know, or what we think we know. Are you using a positivist, critical realist, post-modern approach, or something like that.

thank you for your help .
This is the passage :
kant's narrative of the global realization of bourgeois freedom opens up on the one hand , the interpretative horizon of globalization as the necessary spatial dimension of the project of modernity and provides on the other , the epistemological structure for the economic , political, and military discourses of globalization that surround us today ."
yeh you are right" u said a method " . Here they speak of Kant . I asked someone and he told me that this is mainly through language.
So is a novel / a narrative for instance an epistemological structure ?
or maybe language itself is an epistemological structure ?

I don't really know very much about philosophy or social science. I've heard some of the social scientists at my university use such terms as epistemology and ontology. Social scientists have the problem of trying to understand what's going on in other people's minds. They have invented their own inpenetrable jargon. Personally, I think that passage is poor writing. What it is trying to say is not really very profound, but has been dressed up in jargon to make it sound so. OTOH, the intended audience mostly understands this stuff.
I don't think a novel is an epistemogical structure. I suspect 'narrative' in this context just means writings, not story-telling. I don't think 'epistemological structure' is actually the right phrase anyway. Epistemology is the study of how we know what we know. Ontology is the study of what we know, or how we see the world. I would guess 'ontological viewpoint' would be better than 'epistemological structure'.

kev's initial definition is pretty much right here.
"Kant's narrative of the global realization of bourgeois freedom...provides...the epistemological structure for the economic , political, and military discourses of globalization that surround us today ."
The overwrought use of "epistemological structure" could be replaced with the word "basis" and the sentence would mean the same thing.
Epistemological structure means the knowledge used as the foundation for (x)..
I can't think of an excellent example now.....but here's a mediocre one.
Metre and rhythm help make up the epistemological structure to writing poetry.
That is, in order to write poetry, you need a solid understanding of metre and rhythm.

To to critic , kant's universality of the reason inaugurates the discourse of globalization. This is , to him , how we know what we know about globalization. Yes, this is the epistemological structure . Got u and the terminology is correct.Because this is the basis of his study of the globalization of the novel.
Thank u very much my dear friends.
I'm so lucky being among you.
