Have you got any New Year ambitions, aims or resolutions?
For me:
1 A chess rating equivalent to 1800
2 Maintain fitness and general health
3 Get a motorbike

#3 might interfere with #2. :)

My ambition ah. I have to write my thesis and feel so depressed when I sit at home. I can't work when I'm at home. I just lay dying. Will God give me the strength to do it.

It's been nearly 3 years since I've had an opportunity to travel through New Mexico or other parts of the U.S Southwest.
Hope to get there this year.
Less time on the computer and more time with reading and hobbies.

I'm pretty sure you're right. That's how it starts: first a Honda two stroke, then a BMW 650 and finally, ditching two wheels for four, your horizons spread along with the waistband. Those 28 inch waistband trousers are about to become a distant memory.

I'm trying to learn a foreign language, and I have some other things I'm trying to learn. I want to enjoy these learning experiences and also feel like I'm making some progress with them. Continue reading and writing.
I just read an article on making new year's resolutions, and it suggested not that "you refrain from trying to better yourself, but rather that you lock in commitments to self-betterment that won’t require vigilance or attention in the year ahead."

Five literature-related aims:
1) Read at least half of my books-I bought 100 plus of them-about writing poems, short stories, creative essays, and novels.
2) Try to read more Russian poems and short stories-I have the temperament for appreciating them. Russian novels are just too long, circular, and wordy for me
3) Write philosophical or existentialist short erotic pieces of literature-to the mold of the films Leolo and Malena.
4) Write a chapter each month and complete my novel by December. I don't care if it will be published. I'm a masochist that way.
5) Translate all Greek tragedies from English to my dying dialect just for posterity's sake. I find the ethos and pathos in Greek literature almost similar to those in my culture.
With these aims, I hope my folks will continue supporting me- like my mother washing my laundry, my father buying me groceries, and my baby sister crossing out cliches in my writings.

That was the fitness part; the general health part involved the lack of armoring aroudn you while riding in traffic. I don't know a motorcycle owner who hasn't had at least one accident, and it's very painful and damaging when soft and gooshy humans wipe out at automobile speeds.

Oh yes I know you meant that. There are a lot of idiots around on the roads as well. As a cyclist a more or less get run off of the road/ignored on a weekly basis. At least with the motor I would be able to take the centre of the road and keep up with the flow of the traffic. With that in mind, and a careful and cautious approach to riding, it makes you wonder whether I would actually be safer on a motor. The purchase would bit of a luxury though as I don't need it as a commute to work really (live 2 miles from work) but rather as a spring/summer country ride around.

Right, I'm in discussions regarding taking a second CBT (compulsory basic training) for the motorbike. That's one step closer to one of my aims of the year (no. 3)!
In terms of fitness I went biking a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a while and I was pretty poor, maybe only 70%, but this is understandable as I haven't been on the bike for a while and tennis is out, but I will soon be up to peak fitness when the tennis season starts up again. Maintaining fitness will be fairly easy. There's also a chance to head out on the bike this weekend, but it is close to minus 2 :cold: so let's see. (no. 2).
Getting a chess rating of 1800 on the other hand might prove to be a very tall order. I think I have continually underestimated just what this means. I'm about 1500 now and I thought picking up 300 points would be hard work but doable. I still think it is doable but it is more than hard work too. I'm putting in a minimum of four hours a day (more on the weekend) on my chess. I'm paying for a chess coach too. All this means I have very little time for other things (Lit Net inc) and 90% of my reading is now chess. I really need to join a local chess club though as this is pretty fundamental to aiding improvement. (no. 1).
Neely and out.

Hmmm, let's have a look...
increasing my translation tariff by one eurocent for new clients (I know that sounds nothing, but it's an accomplishment)
Get on the road to an apartment in Prague.
Get our house low-cost to run (get solar pannels on the roof for hot water in summer, a water heating wood stove downstairs and drag the one we've got downstairs up to the second floor; get rid of the f*cking oil)
Get a baby
I think I've still got some more, but I think that's quite enough :D

Well my main aim in the new year is to eat healthy without skipping the good stuff since I don't need a diet, just want to be more energetic. Try and write more, I always want to write but lack the confidence and my teacher said yesterday that if we don't like our writing style then write until we do. So I'm gonna try and write more, whatever it will be.
If I could make one for my brother it would be to get an apartment cause I really want my living room back but I just hope he'll do it and not just talk about it.

:drool5: Wow that's lovely, screen saver alert, screen saver alert! And yes the bike looks good too, though should be black to match my new girl friend.
Yes I'm only allowed on a 125. My mate called me 'wild hog' in a text message, I replied that I am more like a 'tame piglet' at the moment, but still loving it. I just bob around at 30 mph, though the bike can do about 60-65 max, I've never had the opportunity to get into 5th gear as of yet.
Off to look for screen savers (I've had the beach for too long) if I can't find a black bike to match the girl friend I'm having that one.
