Delta40,

Our trails haven’t crossed much on the Forums until recently when talking about guns, kangaroos and feral hogs. I believe you’re out ahead of us in the time zone, so this message may find you too late, but if you happen to catch it in transition, I wish you well.
Nothing out of the ordinary here as of 6:00 pm CDT. I moved the family down into a large storm sewer pipe along with a few cases of Campbell’s soup, Spam, hard tack and a jar of Marmite.
We’ll see how long we can hold up in here. Creek water isn’t the best, considering the runoff from parking lots, but it will have to do given the circumstances.

Do you know if they carved out a specific time?

Ok so it's 5.10pm AEST and we're all still here. Maybe it will be the 22nd for us Aussies. Campbell soup and spam sounds practical Gilliatt. I just opened a new jar of Vegemite this morning and figured I wouldn't Xmas shop the really expensive stuff till after today had passed but maybe I'll have to wait an extra day....

According to the BBC, the world isn't due to end until 11:11 GMT - so I've got a couple of hours left. That said, they had some loony on the radio last night who claimed that there was a margin of error and that 'the world is more likely to end on the 24th'. I guess those ol' Mayans weren't as accurate as we all thought.

But yes, if the world does end shortly, I shall miss LitNet. It's a wonderful community.

A margin of error? How did he come to this conclusion?

No idea, I'm afraid. I was only half-listening.

I suspect his hope was to draw out the panic for a few days longer.

As for me, I've done the Christmas shopping... but I've been putting off doing the wrapping just in case Armageddon made it a waste of time. I guess I'll have to maker a start now.

O!M!G! The world didn't end! Nor did the six inches of snow we were supposed to get last night happen. Can no one predict anything anymore?

I just shared a meal at an Ethiopian restaurant and got a doggy bag. I'm going to remain optimistic.

I am making my 2013 New Year's Resolutions today to show my contempt for end-of-the-world prophecies. There have been too many in my time, and all have been proven untrue. I don't doubt the world will end one day, but probably not in my lifetime.

However, I have to admit...this has taught me something. I've often gotten annoyed at my neighbors for being so noisy. The Spanish and blacks play their music loud. The Haitians across the street speak so loud (and I can't tell whether it is an argument or friendly conversation) that I can easily hear them with the windows closed and the AC on. They are nice people otherwise, but just so noisy! Until yesterday...and today. Everybody is so quiet. You never realize all the noise you hear until it is gone. Nobody is talking on their cell phones. Nobody is watching movies or playing video games and ear shattering volume. Nobody is walking down the street or driving down the street. I get the idea they think that if they are very quiet, God will pass them over. I feel like going out and screaming, "Will guys make some noise?" So I think I will never complain about noisy neighbors after this.

Just my luck that I'd win and never get a chance to spend the dough. (The gal who was crowned Miss Universe the other day joked that her reign would only last 24 hours.)

I was worried that, because of the International Date Line, the Land Down Under would "buy" it first, but around six last night (EST) I saw a live shot from Sidney and was relieved to see that you along with my young relative who relocated to your continent were okay.

Funny thing-- this morning we had a big rain and wind storm, which in my neck o' the woods had gusts of 62 miles an hour. The wind blew the entire roof off a public middle school down the road. For a moment there the poor kids thought it was the much-touted apocalypse! Their fears must've evaporated when they were sent home a half-day early to start their Christmas (er, holiday) vacation.

Reporting from central USA, the end of the world has so far not happened here. I repeat, it has NOT happened here so far.

The US stock market closed down supposedly because of something to do with a "fiscal cliff", but I suspect it was really due to investors not being sure when the end would actually occur.

haha, the world didn't end. Actually, according to Wikipedia, that was only one interpretation.

The 2012 phenomenon was a range of eschatological beliefs that cataclysmic or transformative events would occur around 21 December 2012.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Thi
s date was regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar.[7]
