You took your life

Without meaning to

Your last words still echo

Daddy, I don't want to die

I remember how your mother cried

We were both sixteen

I will never forget

You had beauty and brains

Your whole life ahead

We only met twice

Who could have guessed

Perhaps you were playing Juliet

When you drank that poison

People said there was a Romeo

I wonder where he is now

P.S. You have a new sister

They named her after you

Reads well 'cept L7; perhaps adding the word "will" instead would better balance the line "I will never forget". The last two lines are an interesting Twist.

Thanks tailor STATELY for your advice. I have changed line 7 accordingly.

This is a powerful piece twist and so genteel at the same time. It is a sad poem but its simplicity made it easy to read.
Very well done twist.

Your title immediately made me think of 'Stan' by Eminem. I guess you meant it to? I like the concision of your poem, avoiding the temptation to over sentimentalise. It seems very likely this is a true account. Well done.

Thanks Jerrybaldy. You're absolutely right - it is a true account about a cousin. The title didn't have anything to do with 'Stan' but I did just read the lyrics and see why you thought so. I didn't think I had much in common with Eminem!
