Happy Birthday, Mr Comedian!

An interview with The Comedian:

*Why are we doing this interview thing?*
It's fun and a pleasing distraction from responsibility.

*So, how old are you?*
Still 30ish. . .

*What is the best birthday present you've ever received?*
Well, I should say that hand-made birthday card from my daughters last year -- the one with the stickers, hearts, peace-signs, and such. But, honestly, the millennium falcon toy that I got when I was, like 7. . .that was AWESOME!

*If you had a personal theme song what would it be?*
Probably this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6ao41o2Qt0

*Are you male or female? *
Male

*If you could build an entire planet from scratch, what would it look, sound and smell like?*
Let's see. It would have one huge city. That's where's I'd plunk all the people. Then, the rest of the planet would be a National Park Wilderness area. And I'd be the only person with a pass to the park. And the rivers and lakes in the park would be full of big fish. . . .And the city would be loud and filled with lights. And the Wilderness area would be sun-lit or dark, depending on the time of day. And the city would smell like piss, concrete and baked bread. And the wilderness are would smell like pine tress and snow.

*If you owned the site, what would you change?*
I'd put a 7 day "window" in the general literature forum for author-specific posts. That might get some more author-oriented buzz going here. Then, if the thread has died or is still hot with life, either way, it would be moved to the author section to live out its days and nights.

*What was the inspiration for your LitNet username?*
Two things: a character in Watchmen and a Wallace Stevens poem called "The Comedian as the Letter C"

*Which countries did you visit?*
USA, England, Greece, Italy, Canada, Mexico

*What is the last thing that you have done that you have been really proud of?*
Good question. I'm not really sure. Maybe that's sad.

*If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?*
First, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. But if I did, it would be even closer to Lake Superior.

*Do you have any pets?*
Yep. Some fish and two pet rats: Marshmallow and Smokey.

*What makes you happy?*
Lots of things -- warm, strong coffee in the AM, the pull of a fish on my line, reading a well-turned sentence, smiles on the faces of the ladies in my life, beating the hell out of my friends in fantasy football, canoeing a river, skiing a trail under starlight. . . .

*Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?*
Yogi Bear

*What's your signature dance move?*
Standin' by the wall wachin' the girls. . . .

*How do you like your coffee? *
Black

*Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?*
Turkey Vulture

When you were younger, what did you want to be?
An essayist, a poet, a professional fisherman, a vagabond

*What was the best day of your life?*
Today -- it's always the best day of my life 'cause it's the only one that matters.

*What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)*
I'm handy around the kitchen and in the workshop. I'm pretty good at validating a female when she needs a pick-me-up.

*What is the one thing you must do before you die?*
Bah! Bucket lists are for neurotics. . .

What’s the geekiest thing about you?
I'd rather read than watch movies. . .

*If you were to be stuck at a particular time in your life, which one would you choose and why?*
This time.

Do you ever get tired of living your life?
Hell no.

*What one thing would you NEED to have on a deserted island if you didn't have to worry over food and water? *
A fishin' rod.

*If you were a king/queen for a day, what would you do?*
I've said this before: I'd "lite out for the territories" and wait until the day was all over.

*What’s the stupidest forum argument you’ve ever had?*
I recently had an argument with a 5-year old about putting on a winter coat. That was pretty stupid.

*What song is in your head at the moment?*
This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viCZWBB6W8s

*Which book are you reading at the moment?*
"Wilderness and the American Mind" by Roderick Nash. I'm readin' it for this class that I'm takin'.

*What is your favourite quote?*
"Everyone must believe in something -- I believe I'll go canoeing." Henry Thoreau is showin' the wisdom, right here.

*What’s your favorite word?*
I'll borrow this one from my 5-year old: "yes".

*Favorite avatar on the Forum?*
I've always liked Silas Thorne's avatar; Scher's Halloween witch is pretty cool too.

*Favorite threads?*
The Thoreau forum (little used); and I like the blogs a lot too.

What's your favorite sandwich?
A hamburger.

What is the exact threashold of your credability?
Eh?

*What are you wearing at the moment?*
New blue-jeans, fancy button-up shirt, sport coat, wool socks, and black Chuck Taylors

*Favorite poem?*
"Intimations of Immortality"

*First novel you remember reading on your own?*
Can't remember. . .

*Which Forum members would you like to meet in person?*
Scher, Neely, Gillatte, Silas, Lucky, B4B, qimi. . . and a lot more that I'm sure I'm forgettin'

*Last words you said out loud?*
"That looks good".

*Last person you hugged/kissed?*
One of the three girls. . . .can't remember which at the moment.

*What do you do to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?*
I profess literature and writin'. And, yes, mostly.

*What is your most outstanding feature?*
My long eye lashes. . . .

*If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?*
I'd LOVE to be taller. I mean, I'm 5'7" -- and being a straight 6'0" would be killer. . . .

*What book would you recommend to others of all types and ages as a must read?*
Get ready for the big surprise. . . . snare drum roll. . . . intensifying violins. . .. and: "Walden"! Bet you didn't see that one comin'.

*Favorite movie?*
"Off the Map"

*Last movie you watched?
Don't know. Maybe The Avengers. . .

*Favorite painting?*
Something by the Hudson River School. . . .

*What is the wisest thing that has been said to you?*
"Creativity amazes people" -- friend of mine said that to me in grad school. He's right.

What is the best thing that happened to you since your last birthday?
Not sure if it's the "best", but I went back to university to start on another MA -- goin' for philosophy this time around.

*Are you mostly happy with life or are you still in pursuit?*
Happy

*One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?*
Go-take-a-nap

*What question would you like to ask to the person to be interview after you?
"How could English teachers make reading literature more meaningful to students (young or old)?"
