What were your favourite books published this year (2012)?

So far I have read 'New ways to kill your mother' by Colm Toibin which contains a series of essays on different authors and their relationships with their families and how these relationships manifested in their works, Thomas Mann, Tennesse Willams, John Cheever, Baldwin, Obama, Yeats, Beckett etc.. I found these mini biographies very compelling especially the one on the eccentric Mann family. I also read the 'thriller' 'Before I go to sleep' by S.J. Watson which was exceptionally badly written. Other books from 2012 i'll be reading soon..

- 'Yellow birds' by Kevin Powers.
- 'Pulphead: notes from the other side of America' by John Jeremiah Sullivan.
- 'How to Cure a Fanatic' by Amos Oz.
- 'Train Dreams' by Denis Johnson.
- 'On Poetry' by Glyn Maxwell.

Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel
Hawthorn & Child by Keith Ridgeway
The Lighthouse by Alison Moore

I've heard great things about Train Dreams. I think I'm going to have to pick that one up.

Hilary Mantel is on my list. She deserved to win the man booker.
