I feel the essence of existence coursing through my veins.
My blood runs hot as centuries of instinct flash before me.
I am enveloped and consumed by the filth of humanity.
The sound of approaching horses shake the land in cruel alarm.
Death has arrived today on the southern wind.
One man stands in defiance. “Die if I must I refuse to run today.
I've fought much to hard for this patch of dirt and nearly starved.
If it is not the bandits it is the politicians or the harsh seasons,
too much rain or too little, too hot or too cold for too long.
Everything seems meant to keep you down and I've prayed to God
begged and screamed cried and pleaded. Beat against his door
until my hands were bloody and broken.
Sacrificed myself in the name of honor and decency, for what?
And if I survive this swarm what then? Toil again somewhere else.
And likely starve. No.'' With that he calmly sat down.
“Die if I must, I die here today.”
