Shredded flywire door
flapping in the hot morning wind
Close the windows
roll down the bamboo shutter
That blaze of orange
christmas wattle
stinks anyway

Last of the milk
swirled into my coffee
Flies, flies, flies
swarm around the gizzards
of a willy wagtail
Slap mosquitoes
Linger between
toxic threads of smoke.

Australia never seemed so far away. Hot morning wind and flies around gizzards. Its a world away. Well half of one. You must be typing this with one hand swiping a mozzie, waiting to go to work some time in my tomorrow morning :) You may be waltzing your Matilda on the commute, if you take it. An evocative window to your world.

There's nothing like writing in real time. One more coffee (I lied about the milk) and I'll be catching the train Jerry.

Oh what a better word is flywire than screening. What's a willy wagtail? Love it, Delta. Do you send off your stuff for publication? What interesting and entertaining books they would make.

Forgot that it's summer down under until I read this. If it's this bad before you leave for work, I'd hate to know what it's like when you get back.

Never heard of "christmas wattle" but judging by what precedes it, not looking forward to find out what it is!

Christmas wattle are bushes that only burst out into flower around christmas time. They grow wild across the landscape and are a blazing orange. They're actually quite beautiful.

Bushes... and the whole time I was thinking of wreaths! I suppose they make wreaths out of them too?

Like Firefangled, I wanted to ask you already in your previous thread whether you would consider sending your stuff for publication.

This is an excellent snapshot of your day's beginning... Love it.

I haven't sent anything off for publication at all Bar. I discovered Lit-Net and started writing poetry. That's my poetic career so far. I recently compiled an anthology for a friend which was interesting because I realised I had actually developed in four years without really knowing how. An education in poetry wouldn't hurt either I suppose!

FF a willy wagtail is a cheeky little black and white bird full of bravado - a bit like a robin.

Haunted - wreaths at christmas? I was thinking 'well yeah if you die' then I clicked. Honestly, they're not really a common decoration here.
