There is a sentence from my homework which seems really awkward:
" I know this is not everyone's .........(perception, feeling, thought, idea) of stimulation, but as i fancied myself as bit of amateur psychologist"
My teacher's answer is idea, but what is the difference between it and "thought" of?
How can we understand this sentence?

I don't understand the sentence. Is that the full sentence?
I don't get what you are asking in reference to the sentence.

But I can try the title
Idea versus Thought.

An idea is something to do with an action attached to it.
An idea has consequential developments to it. I formulate something either on my own and with others and then I ''activate'' it meaning I make it happen physically. So it is a three way process think about it discuss it then make is happen. It is mental as well as spoken and physical process.
For example:
I have this idea I am going to make cakes open a patisserie shop and sell the cakes.

So an idea has a stretching point which is to make something then denouement which is to open a shop and sell the cakes, hopefully, then the result is to make money.
An idea is a thinking process which takes form.

A thought is more complex. It is inner and not always aired.
A thought is also as a result to an outside spoken thought:
I can ask what time it is ? and you could say: Oh I have just had a think why don't I make clocks.
So a thought can feed to an idea and idea can lead to a thought.

The difference between a thought and an idea is I think this:
A thought is not always obvious and so not spoken. I could not always tell what one is thinking.
An idea is obvious. You see a shop you know the person behind it had the idea because he took it all the way.
A thought is a thinking process internal or loud that may or may not lead to the idea.
An idea is as a result of a thinking process influenced by others thoughts as a result of something seen or said.

To recap a thought is an internal process that may lead to an idea.
An idea is as a result of formulated thought.
An idea justifies the thought but the thought does not always justify the idea.
An idea come and go but thinking is ongoing. We think all the time. We do not formulate ideas as much as we think.
