Or what if there were meetings for compulsive talkers? Can you imagine a room full of them? Guess I've only known two really compulsive talkers in my life. People who can speak for ten hours without hardly a break. I know one now, and though not everything she says is annoying or useless, and she's by no means a dumb person, it can be overwhelming. She's aware people get annoyed by her need to talk. She also greets and talks to strangers anywhere at any time. She seems friendly and charming enough I suppose to these people, because who doesn't like a friendly hello? I've never known anyone else to do this, just talk to anybody whenever, about whatever.

Long ago I knew a guy who also had the urge to talk. He was a constant stream of nonsense. He used to call a roommate I had. I recall once the roommate on the phone, not getting a word in except for the occasional "yeah" or such. He put the phone down and went to take a dump, came back ten minutes later to the phone, said "yeah". I did a similar thing with the woman, and old friend of my brother in the hospital. Put the phone do, go do something for 5 minutes, come back, say, "yeah".

Some have logorrhea. Could be a medical issue. They are needy people and neurotic. This woman has some kind of persecution complex. Even if she is reading a newspaper or book she will need to read things aloud. Can't be away from her own voice for more than a minute. It's hard as I have to see her often enough as we both visit my brother, who is not well.

Guess it would make a good sitcom joke though. "Compulsive Talkers Meeting: 1 to 9 pm daily."

I've never 'heard' of it but it 'sounds' interesting....

Tourette syndrome (TS) is an inherited disorder of the nervous system, characterized by a variable expression of unwanted movements and noises (tics)

Is that compulsive?

Although impulsive compulsive is there a fine line between the two?

compulsive means this according to whoever wrote it:
Compulsive behavior is behavior which a person does compulsively—in other words, not because they want to behave that way, but because they feel they have to do so.
I can't see the difference between ''I feel I have'' to and ''I want to.''

impulsive:
Impulsivity (or impulsiveness) is a multifactorial construct[1] that involves a tendency to act on a whim,

Impulsive as in instantaneous.

Being with a compulsive talker is tiresome but so is being with an elective mute.

A compulsive talker and a mute would make good friends. I can't believe the woman I mentioned above was married before, and now has a boyfriend. She's nuts even though she's not a bad person. I'd be suicidal after a few months with someone like that in my life all the time. It's exhausting. Everybody I know who knows her feels the same way. The thing is that these people are incapable of conversations. They might listen a little or ask a few questions, but they need to dominate 90% or more of all the talking, and they talk approximately 55 minutes out of every hour they're with someone. It's unreal. Doesn't matter what, just gotta be talking. Even this subject is making me anxious, and rambling.

I guess the next question on this thread would be:

What would compulsive talkers talk about?

I think the sitcom idea would be hilarious. The whole putting the phone down, doing something, and picking back up again with the other person not even noticing is also pretty comedic. I've never talked to a compulsive talker.... (Haha) but seriously, I don't think it would be possible, unless they agreed on how to take turns talking or something. If they talked about something that was actually interesting to the person they were talking to it wouldn't be that bad, but I'm not sure how often that would happen.
