Does anyone contribute articles or information? I do from time to time. (having trouble with the reference/citation)

No I don't.
What kind of articles do you contribute tony?

I used to do a fair bit of alteration to wikipedia, particularly on Old Norse topics. I sort of stopped because, more often that not, I would find that someone had come along after and changed it back to how it was before. I really did find that frustrating.

That is interesting.
Wiki agents are around in case you type they do not agree with.

Yes - the problem is that I know that I am right! In disagreeing with me, they are putting information out there that is incorrect.

I absolutely agree with you and that is the problem with wiki. There is a lot of information they give is incorrect.
I guess that is part of google right to have a wiki?

Yeah, I spent quite a bit of time expanding an article on Derek Parfit and it was all removed when I checked it the next day. Definitely put me off contributing. That was a year ago, though... maybe I'll try again on a different article.

Don't they have any kind of appeals process or oversight in case of conflicting contributors?

I am intrigued that any contributor would savage your Wikipedia submission on Old Norse, a topic in which few would have expertise, unless to improve your submission. Can you give some insight into who might do this, and what their motives may be? I would expect that this contributor would be able - and would avail himself of the opportunity - to contact you first regarding your submission, as a matter of courtesy if for no better reason. I gather you have no redress other than deleting his changes and restoring your original submission.

As a reader of Wikipedia, who has recently read Ibsen's Warriors at Helgeland, this matter seems rather important.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the contributions of an expert are belied by a so-called specialist who is actually ignorant. Not a surprise since anyone can participate. Criticism of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Wikipedia) can be found on the site itself.

Agree. It's what's constantly happening.

The grammar and punctuation on that site is apalling. I read it for a good laugh though (otherwise I'd cry).

if i have noticed a factual error i have just added it to the talk page rather than editing the article content directly.

I am creating and amending a few Wikipedia articles. Now that I figured out javascript it's much easier - faster as I get more comfortable with javascript.
