Woke to a ray of sunlight piercing my eye
The roar of helicopters flying upside down
As cracks in the concrete mirrored the sky
The Devil at a bustop in white bridal gown

And by a pond reflecting somewhere else
As the clouds crash down leaden heavily
The oak trees in unison start to convulse
A swan approaches and grumbles off-key

Farther on the mercurial murk of the river
Slows down until a solid of festering gloop
An Astronaut fights with a Deep Sea Diver
As the animals in the zoo all fly the coop

The zebra saddles and straddles a panda
A policeman pauses to polish his toenails
From out of the blue I get a back-hander
'What!?' he snaps, as a steamtrain derails

And the satellites orbit faster and faster
As lightning sparkles in filigree patterns
People turn into shining green alabaster
The world squishes, of a sudden flattens

Boats far out at sea falling off the edge
Birds fly reverse in the wild blue yonder
A porcupine peeps from under a hedge
'So many things - so much to ponder...'

I watch and listen for something more
But it sneers and snorts, tunnels away
A noise off-camera - a slamming door
I return home through the fabric of fray
