to defeat procrastination Part I
the armies are lined with shields and knives
framed and clothed, armour-sound, swords in place
and bayonets and uzis, machinery old and new
marching steady, to stop, steady top
breathing rhythms and muscle rhythms
all pouring, peregrinating and slow to sleep —
fast to order; all under heavy tension.
the canon blows, landmines scream
scattered limbs, fallen heroes, as warriors are heroes sung
and unsung; bloodied pulpy lips and sockets
the nightmare lashes, claws and jaws, mantles and grids
the yells and howls as the plan goes awry
the bullets blaze, waging are the swords, pierce, plucked macabre
thou art unexpected mortal in this mortal's ball
the pain, plundered bodies stay immobile
the snapping jaws, like waves, coil and flow
I switch on the TV, watch a series or two
I know I have an assignment due
the armies form again
the battle, the war gets to second quarter. ▬
matrix of solitude and serene
the clouds were like waxen beings
who toil and flow through heat, wind and water
melting into fragments, hourglasses of vapour and tissue
the sun is about
blue is about
the garden beats in a pulse with birds and butterflies
and I mouth on a suckling-flower
juices in and soon tasted
all is right with the world
and ashes and cement
marked buildings and stone
as bleeding infants and crying parents troll the earth
like undead, citizens mingle right and left
no street one's own
no permanent address
and tears like rain, like cloud, are the pendulous clock
that house fatigue and annihilation
the calm, the quiet, no birds, ravaged trees sway
a breath, a sigh, a bleeding forehead
all is right with the world. ▬
leaders don't lead
they have their tongues coated
their skins and flesh dry
like a ribcage-birdcage sans the singing heart
their parrot mouths mouth declarations
and their horizons panel democracy like an advert
on a flashing highway
where denizens roam
in lost circles when the imposed dark hits heavy...
and they say enemies to the left, enemies to the right
fossil fuels ignite, global warmth-breadth expands
these and that chokes, health topics on the rise
this was my father, my mother, my spouse, my sibling, my lover
my ideal, my sorrow, my target-ed audience
to cheat or not to cheat?
that is the rhetorical question
and soon the feast is completed
lives put on pins and needles
wept bodies, lands owned-taken, survivors murdered
and all that jazz
they say 'we will be strong.'
they never say 'we will share our vulnerabilities as we are human beings.' ▬"
