“Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who’s the fairest of them all.”
Not me anymore
As bags reside
under my eyes
And my dimples
live under my chin.
I have tried potions
Of magic and youth,
Eye lifts, chin redefined
None of them work
all that fine.
Eyeliner, shadows, lip stick and more
To make me seem more amore
I quake to look at myself each day
And wonder when youth ran away.
Whoever loves me will love
My soul and its giving.
Cuz there is nothing much to
Gaze upon only my beautiful
inner being.

Of course, it would be ideal to love and be loved for who we are and not for how we look, but I think the eyes of the narrator are a bit too critical as to how she/he really looks. A touching poem, Kitty! Thanks a lot!

I love this! What can we do, but accept the downward spin on the ferris wheel?

Lol. One day we will be so old, we will be able to hide our wrinkles by sitting on them...

Or just folding them in on each other until we get a smooth surface. Gross!

There's only one alternative to growing older.

Two actually, some one can kill you or you can kill yourself. Is that what you meant?

Well, I just meant death in general.

Alternative? The folly of youth....

Just because someone acts immature doesn't mean that they are youthful...they're just in denial.

Lol you're right. The folly of youthful thinking?

Well, I just meant death in general.
Dear Mr. Masked Man Jethro....death may be an answer to growing old in physical ways but staying young is an internal choice which out weights wrinkles and faded skin. A genuine awe of nature, smiling at simple things (not stupid things), responding to new environments with an open mind, all help to retain one's youth. I may have written of the material shell we occupy but do not dismiss the one factor that really does determine your age; being young of heart and spirit.
As the last stanza reads
"Whoever loves me will love
My soul and its giving.
Cuz there is nothing much to
Gaze upon only my beautiful
inner being."
Moi? I will stay young forever!!!
:smile5:
thank you for commenting and happy Sunday to you!
