Can you tell me who this author is from his portrait?

I'm really really sorry that I'm posting something like this, but I've spent the last hour looking up every author I've ever heard of, and even those I haven't, trying to find out who this is:

I saw this portrait in a TV show on the wall of a writer, right under a portrait of Shimazaki Toson, so I have to assume he's a Japanese writer, but my research is going nowhere. If he turns out not to be a writer I think I'll blush so hard it'll fry the egg on my face. :blush2:
