One thing this reader liked about this is its statement about change. '.' is exactly the same at the beginning of the story as at the end. And in the middle, where one would expect '!' or even maybe '?', instead there is '.' again-- you defy the reader's expectations at every turn. Very prog, very postmodern; this is marvelous.
