In stripey pyjamas
my thoughts roam
till the sun rises
I'll race you there and back!
On this marathon of mania,
there is no finish line,
no victory ribbon to cross.
I can stop now..No I can't!
I'll swallow a purple pill
for Bi-Carb Soda II
and take a chopper to the
unnecessay details.
All my friends tell me
I don't need the umbilical cord
once a poem is born.
Why cradle the placenta
when I can nurse the real thing?

Hi Delta. Is this a revision of an earlier poem? I had one of those weird deja vu moments when reading it as the first half felt very familiar. Anyway, whether it is or not, it's very good. Not a word out of place. Loved it.

Thanks. I have mentioned purples pills and the birth of poems in other pieces but this is not a revision. I do struggle with separating myself from the creative process and the end product, which for me, isn't always the most satisfying part of writing. There are many poems I've posted that have not been well received but I so enjoyed the process I went through in creating them, they remain my favourites and I'm loathe to edit them in case it affects that fond experience. My friend tells me that is the difference between an amateur poet and a professional poet. He may be right and I may just need to develop more as I travel along.
