(III.A.2.B)<br>And as for content:<br>The writing style and pace of this work mimics the ocean voyage itself: slow... slow... slow... ACTION! ACTION!.... slow... slow... and so forth. Fortunately for the crew of the Pequod (tho' not for those making money off the voyage), there were more sunny, uneventful days than chaotic ones. Life on the sea gives one an opportunity to really think things through and examine them from all angles; the victory of this story is Melville's ability to take you on that extensive, uncertain journey. And in the telling of the details, we learn so much about life in that time without the heavy-handedness of a history book. Learning through living. Sit back and enjoy the voyage.
