If You Follow Someone, It's Called Stalking by mjh

I wrote a poem, but ripped it to shreds
And posted 140 characters instead.

An Ageing Man Looks On With Interest by mjh

I heard him say, ‘Gather round’ and call:
‘See the bird that shall not fall
Into Satan’s underworldly hand
Nor lie beneath the Earth and sand!’
Still – the child weeps.

The boy at work is curious,
Young lovers yearn oblivious
To the wonders that appear before them;
‘Still, my heart. Be still.’

Me, I question Life itself
My darling’s pain through loss of health
The age at which my hair grew grey,
Still – I sit motionless.

The Moon above in standard course,
Some cry while some show no remorse.
For Science is the Great Divider
Of Man.

Derek Bailey by mjh

Distorted halogen horror and falsified light
Contorts my impression of the heavens.
Have you ever seen it
Sit so low in the sky? Neither have I.
Sheffield City Council can recreate
Creation and all it does is keep me up
At night.
Still, a sun is rising on the cities that were
Once clouded out.

Thanks a lot. I should probably mention that 'An Ageing Man Looks On With Interest' was written in response to 'An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump' by Joseph Wright of Derby. The poem might make a little more sense if you take a look at this wonderful painting.

Derek Bailey was an exceptional avant-garde, improvisational guitarist from Sheffield. That might be something to keep in mind when reading my new poem.
