here's one for the books
i wake up
slide out of the covers
and there i am
still laying there
like i were fast asleep
but closer examination
reveals me to be

dead

completely

all pale blue
like i had seen a ghost
a still dead corpse
and the ghost is me

damn
because i had
lots of things
on the agenda
today

very busy

but instead
it seems i have the day off
even though
i don't want it

so as a ghost
i get to wondering
what can i do?

not a lot

i'm hungry for sure
like i'm all hollow
can't hold a knife
not even a can opener
let alone a can
i try the cupboard
but my hand fails to grasp
the handle

i reach in
find some
surreal cereal
i can feel the toasted grains
inside the box
but that's as useless
i can get neither out

same thing occurs
with the fridge
and the leftovers

it strikes me
i've been presuming
eventually
things will go back to normal
but no
i have to get used
to being a
ghostly
hungry
pointless
entity

who can't even pick up a spoon
